A little about Melanie and Lemons and Ink…
Oh hey there! I’m Mel, I’m a born New Yorker who currently resides in sunny San Diego and the slower pace definitely suits me.
I have always prided myself on being someone who loved to see the beauty in the every day. But when the pandemic began I found it harder and harder to not let the stress of the unknown overtake my thoughts. I picked up watercolor as a way to reconnect to my artistic and creative self who had been ignored for the last 10 years. You know how it goes, I was growing a styling business, writing a best selling book, raising little humans… the list goes on. But I always craved more creativity.
So what WAS that first painting that started me on this journey? Well it was a painting of one of my favorite foods… lemons. I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed painting. It felt like a part of me that was always there, but I never knew it. I started painting as often as I could with whatever came to mind and to my surprise my talent and passion grew.
It was also at this time that we moved from Northern California to San Diego into a home with the most BEAUTIFUL lemon tree. I know, it was meant to be.
As I continued to paint I started to have friends and family reach out for commissions and the word of mouth grew and grew. I realized that this love of painting turned this unprecedented time into something wonderful for me, and brought joy to those around me. It literally was turning lemons into lemonade (hence the name Lemons and Ink).
I would absolutely adore for you to have a piece of my artwork in your home. A little piece of me goes into each painting and if I can share my joy with you, there’s truly nothing better!
When I’m not painting tiny little dog hairs I can be found playing in my backyard with my sweet family including my stellar hubby, new puppy Penny Lane, and two incredibly adorable kiddos (I’m biased) Zoe and Jude. I live for a great musical (ain’t nothing like the feeling of live theatre), a spicy Margarita, endless dance tv shows (World of Dance, So You Think You Can Dance… I don’t discriminate), and a killer bold red lipstick. I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t like, and I think we can all agree that a party without cheese is blasphemy. Also, speaking of parties… I’m a firm believer in the life changing magic of a Taylor Swift dance party.
